2012 - Your First Shoot – Restaging Long Guns

After finishing with your long guns, whether shotgun or rifle, you may need to restage it properly prior to firing one of your other weapons. Restaging is taken quite seriously, it must be done properly.

All restaged long guns must be left with the actions open; lever action rifles with the lever in the open position, pump action rifles with the slide in the open position, shotguns with action open. Failure to leave actions open will be penalized as a 10 second safety penalty.

The long gun must be restaged so that it does not slip or fall over when discarded. Those using double barrel shotguns need to be extra cautious as the butt will tend to slide easily against a relatively smooth surface like a boardwalk or building floor because of the extreme angle between the floor and the shotgun butt. If the long gun falls over it may be a serious infraction if the barrel sweeps the crowd (violating the 170 degree rule) and will be assessed a stage disqualification. If the long only slips or drops but the barrel remains pointed in a safe direction the infraction will be assessed a 10 second safety violation.
