We have a couple of
shooting technique that was learned at other handgun sports that carries
well for Cowboy Action Shooting. Focus on the front sight and seek out the
next target. These techniques work for any gun-pistol, rifle, and shotgun.
The first technique is
used by quick shooters where they concentrate on the front sight as they
transition from the old target to the new target. This quickly lines up
the front of the gun with the new target and only minor adjustments to
align the rear sight will be needed to get everything right for the shot.
Once you are used to this technique you will find that as the entire arm
and gun swings to the next target that everything will be fairly closely
lined up.
The technique of seeking
out the next target tends to go against your natural instinct to see what
you hit. Shooters will naturally want to peek over their gun sights to see
where the shot landed. This wastes time at the shooting line. Fortunately,
Cowboy Action Shooting uses metallic plate targets that emit a nice
“ping” or “clang” when hit so this natural habit should not too
difficult to break. After you have shot at the old target shift your eye
and gun to the next target. This should shave a second or two off of your
shooting time. |
