Stage the external
hammered shotgun with hammers cocked; this will save a second or two on
your stage time. The action is open while staged, of course.
Stage the internal
hammered shotgun with the safety off if possible (factory Stoeger Coach
Guns will set the safety on when the action is closed); this will save a
second or two on your stage time. The action is open while staged, of
course.
If the shotgun is staged
horizontally on a table or structure be sure to place it so that you can
grab the grip with your trigger hand. This eliminates fumbling the shotgun
to get it correctly positioned to shoot. Learn and practice loading the
Coach Gun with the non-trigger hand so that grabbing the shotgun, loading,
closing the action and aiming is a smooth process.
Practice grabbing two shot shells from you belt with your non-trigger
hand. The shells should be aligned in your hand to quickly drop into the
shotgun chambers. As your shells approach the chambers rotate your hand
so that the shell point downward. This way you can see what you are
doing! Just as the shells
approach the chamber rotate your hand so that they align with the
chambers. This is a rolling action with you hand.
After the targets are shot open the action and tip the shotgun barrel
skyward. The shells should drop right out either on their own or with a
quick downward jerk. If not, the chambers need some "tuning", see our
Cowboy Tip 1002. |
